Created in 2015 by Ian Bennett MBKS, an award winning English film maker with the love of the charismatic Cypriot coastal village of Pervolia in his heart, Pervollywood, or Pervolia International Film Festival to use the full title, returns in 2025 driven by the latest in dynamic streaming technology.
Although Pervollywood may be able to trace its beginnings back to 2015, the 2025 festival will actually be only the second edition of the Pervollywood film festival and the first to embrace the latest streaming technology.
Back in 2015, Pervolleywood broke with tradition by supporting the central screenings in an outdoor cinema with mini-screenings around the village in tavernas, coffee bars, cafes and hotels. There were also film themed events and activities including a film quiz in a pub.

So what happened between 2015 and 2024? Why were there no Pervollywood festivals in those years?
It's quite simple actually, for although the festival attracted more than 100 film submissions, 60 of which were screened, it had always been considered as a one-off event for 2015 by the organising team. However, issues emerged that we had to address immediately to protect the Pervolleywood brand (scroll down for brief details) so to avoid confusion we decided to publish early. As such, please be aware that some details will change or are still under discussion.
ABOUT TURN
With large groups unable to meet, the Covid-19 pandemic changed everything and digital entertainment ramped up. However, if the digital advances witnessed through the Covid period are considered alongside the fast approaching 10th anniversary of the first Pervollywood film festival, then suddenly evolution has created a valid reason for a fully digital streaming festival. So, powered by the latest digital streaming technology, the 2025 edition of the Pervollywood festival will take place on-line as a two-way event, celebrating ten years since the original Pervollywood festival and taking not only Pervollywood's films but also the Cypriot village of Pervolia into countries worldwide.
Running over several days, screenings will be in showtime blocks mirroring local screenings and TV programming. Each screening will be themed but where a conventional festival can only deliver its message to those actually present - Pervollywood-film in the Cloud 2025 will be viewable in literally millions of locations worldwide so the potential audience is vast. From the opening address to the final film, everything that could have been witnessed live in the village will be streamed to homes in the four corners of the world.
To capitalise on that phenomenon, what in TV programming would be advertising breaks will in a two-way delivery become film support breaks and promotional breaks, adding interest and intrigue about the next film to be screened, interviews with directors and promoting the village.

WHEN DOES PERVOLLEYWOOD 2025 TAKE PLACE?
Running a film festival outdoors is restricted by light levels and weather conditions. It is simply too light in spring and summer to project outdoors onto a conventional screen and even in Cyprus, which enjoys 300 days of sun per year, winter weather is too unstable to plan ahead with any certainty. All of which dictates an autumn dateline.
None of that applies with an on-line streamed festival, the only consideration for viewing being when do the potential audience want to watch films?
There are of course organisational issues to be addressed but by and large, the organiser of an on-line streamed festival is free to choose what works best as his dateline and in the case of Pervolleywood-film 2025, a spring date has been provisionally set. With long sunny days there will be fewer conflicting festivals in spring and a digitally delivered festival makes it easier for the potential audience. Although there may be some organisational issues to address that could impact on final arrangements, at this early stage a provisional date for the opening is May or June 2025.

Currently negotiations are on-going with several partners for streaming arrangements and final booking options will be announced soon. You can of course be sure that organisers will set up the most cost effective streaming and while a completely free viewing experience is the target, if there is a cost to view the festival then it will be as low as is possible.
